Expecting A Refund?

I've received several emails with questions about a tax refund that they are expecting this year and I thought it would be easier to try to answer them all in this article rather than post a lot of similar emails.

If you entered your banking information on your tax return then your refund will be coming in the form of a direct deposit.  If you did not, then you will receive a paper check.

If you attached Form 8888, Direct Deposit of Refund to More Than One Account, then your refund will be allocated in the way that you chose all by direct deposit.

If you filed your return electronically your refund should be received within three weeks, give or take.  If you filed a paper return your refund will be issued within six weeks, give or take.

You can check the status of your refund by phone or internet.  You can call the IRS Refund Hotline at 800-829–1954 or you may prefer to check online at http://irs.gov and click on the link "Where's My Refund?".  Please have your tax return in hand when you do this as they will ask you for verification information which can be found on your return.

I hope that answers your questions.

Best wishes,
Gina
